T is for Toby, K is for Kitty

With a busy week behind us we are pleased to announce that we a have a new member to our family.

It started with a photo on the website NextDoor.  You need to check out that website for your neighborhood.  On this day a photo of a kitten showed up.

My wife showed me this adorable little blurry photo and said,  “Would you like to adopt a kitten?”  I did not give it much thought at the time she showed me, but as the day wore on, I kept returning to the photo and thinking that maybe now was a good time to bring a pet into our lives.

It was said when we had to give away our animals in Chile.  Though we got them all good homes in Chile they are sorely missed.  Our lives are slightly less full.  There is so much that a pet brings to a family.

Now I am not ready to have a dog, which I feel is a much bigger responsibility, especially here in the States.  You need to be able to put much more time in to having a dog.  Though Colorado is one of the most dog friendly states, I just don’t feel we are in a position to take on that responsibility.

Back to the kitten

So after a few messages sent back and forth and a visit to the kitten’s house  with EV, she made the decision that we have a new family member.  Yes EV made the decision and even picked the name Toby.

After a quick trip to Petsmart to get the essentials we set to the task of introducing Toby to his new family.

I should add that Toby comes from rural Nebraska, farmland.  He was born to a feral mother and was captured by a concerned pet lover.  You see they kill the feral cat population in Nebraska because of the sheer number of abandon cats and then those born from them.  Toby was captured by a caring soul with connections here in Colorado.  We saw the photo and Toby has a new home.

Adopting a feral cat is not new to us, in Chile when we moved into our last home, it came with a feral pregnant cat.  Before you know it we had eight kittens.  Lucky for us we were able to capture them and hand tame them and find homes for all.

It took Toby all of 12 hours to adapt to our home and its noises and people.

Toby is very affectionate, I think he has slept on everyone in the family over the weekend.  He loves everyone eager to be pet, eager to sit in your lap and curl up next to you and fall asleep with you.

You can feel a different energy in the house.  Our new family member Toby has brought that something that has been missing for the past 11 months, something we have not had since we left Chile.

Welcome to the family Toby, thank you for joining the Brewington Family.
