My son Brandon has the distinction of being born on Valentine’s Day. A day of love and romance. However, back on this day in 2003, my lovely wife worked hard to push this little guy out.
However, my lovely wife, Pamela, always loses out on her Valentine’s because we are always celebrating Brandon’s birthday. Every year she forgoes the romance of dinners, diamonds, and luxury getaways to ensure that our boy has a great birthday. Ok, so maybe not diamonds and trips, but she does lose out. Hands up, it is mostly my fault. I get wrapped up in the “not so little” guy’s birthday so much; I forget it is Valentine’s Day.
This year I decided that it was time for me to break the cycle and do something, anything, for my awesome wife of 15 years. This year I got her chocolate strawberries.
Ok, so it’s not dinner or diamonds, but they are yummy, and I even got a card this year. A huge step up from last year and years past, we won’t talk about that. It is time for me to put a big RED heart on the calendar for February 14th, to remind me that not only is it Brandon’s birthday, but it is also the day for me to remember how much I love my wife and how much she loves me, and to shower her with a little something. Maybe next year dinner
Maybe next year dinner and before you know it a luxury trip someplace far away and exotic. Happy Valentine’s Day, my love; you earned it.
