It doesn’t happen often but when it does everyone in the family knows when daddy gets sick. It started a few weeks ago when Danny and EV became ill, as good parents my wife and I stayed home and took care of them in shifts.
I am going to be honest with you when I was younger getting a cold turned me into a big baby. I remember the early mornings laying in my bed, hiding under the sheets hoping my mom wouldn’t come in and make me go to school. Slight sniffles and a cough and I would want to stay home.
Fast forward to my 40’s and life has changed, these days I can’t take time off. When I start feeling a cough or the sniffles, I do not have the opportunity to take time off. You know what I mean, at 3 am you get that feeling in your throat, then that headache feeling and you think “Oh No not today.”
I got that feeling on a Wednesday at night. It started as a small breeze before a hurricane. I thought I could beat this, nothing to worry about, however, Thursday turned out to be a rough day, in the morning the small breeze had changed into a tropical depression. My body was telling me that there was a storm coming. By that evening my head exploded, and my throat was on fire. I was in bed by 6:30 pm.
I decided to take Friday off, and my wife said she would handle the phones so that I could sleep. And sleep I did, all the way to Sunday. I mean WOW I can not remember the last time I stayed in bed for three whole days. I did not even make it to Church.
Come Monday I had to get back to the office, It is great being the boss; however you are the boss, you have to be there. So even though I had no voice, into my Shelter Insurance office, I went, business as usual, though most people must have liked that I kept our conversations short.
Still not feeling 100% I would come home, get some love from my family, eat and go to bed at 7 p.m. Then on Wednesday it snowed overnight so first thing in the morning I got bundled up and was out at 6 a.m shoveling my driveway and some of my neighbors.
I know what you are thinking, “What are you doing dude, your sick!” You are right, but this is my tradition. Get out there and get it done. And to be honest, I was feeling better, except my throat. The aches and pains were gone, no headache and just a little cough.
It felt much better, and I do love winter and the snow. Lots of people hate it but for me its refreshing, cold, crisp. I decided after the hard work it was time for some fun, so I grabbed my drone and flew over the house and got a very new perspective of the fresh snowfall.
I have to say that is a very cool view of the neighborhood. I am using a DJI GO Phantom 3 Standard drone, which is yes registered and insured and I follow all of the rules of contacting my local airport before flying.
The rest of the week has been busy at work, though this sore throat persists and it doesn’t feel as it is getting any better. It is a sharp pain whenever I swallow; I don’t bother to go to the doctor. It seems every time I go to the physician they want to shove a camera up an ‘orifice’ I rather they didn’t.
My wife has been awesome this week, bringing me hot tea, though we had to have a chat about how like my tea. I am the guy who likes two sugars in my tea. Bless her heart she has been bringing me perfect steaming hot tea all week unsweetened. YUCK… but I think we have finally been able to communicate, I now make my own tea LOL.
To close out this week the kids of our church singing Christmas carols. It was beautiful to be able to listen to them sing, and I am so glad as a family we go to church every week. To check it out go to my Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/thegringoshow
